I have had my eye on the Fresh Sugar lip balm/ treatment for sometime and was so excited to see that Sephora is giving away a travel size of the tinted rose and the sugar lip balms to all beauty insiders during the month of their birthday!

Easy Dinner Meal

Not sure where the weekend went but it was filled with lots of activity. I was able to fit in my Zumba class and a session of Yoga. It has probably been close to three years since I last did Yoga. It was exactly what I needed and I can't wait to start adding Yoga to my weekly workouts. We also went to this farmer's market on Saturday morning where they were selling macaroons! Now that is my kind of farmers market.

The cooking and baking bug also hit me this weekend. I made this easy and delicious Beef Macaroni and Cheese Meal. My friend made this for me last year when Elle was born and it has quickly become a favorite meal of ours. It makes a lot so it is nice to be able to put some away in the freezer to save for a later time.

{I only use 1 lb of meat vs the 2 lbs it calls for}

and I also made this cake that I blogged about last week. I made it for our family get together that my aunt hosted on Sunday evening and it went over really well.

Trust me, you want to make this cake!

What I'm Loving this Week: Me time!

I spent my last day of my two week winter vacation having a "me" day yesterday by having some girl time and going to the movie New Years Day! I highly recommend this movie.

Having a "me" day was just what I needed after having an exhausting break that was filled with both good and bad things. My break started out with Miss E being sick for a week which also meant zero sleep, attended a funeral of one of my student's parents who was killed in a car accident, went thru sippy cup bootcamp training, now we are going thru some separation anxiety {especially at bedtime}, took down Christmas decor, attended story time at Pottery Barn Kids, and spent way too much time on pinterest. On the bright side of things, I was able to have some extra days at home with Miss E with a visit to the zoo and several trips to the park. I was able to catch up on my celeb gossip... {For some reason I am really sad about Katy Perry getting divorced and super excited that Jessica and Justin are engaged}, got caught up on Gossip Girl {Oh, how I so want Blaire and Chuck back together and that his character is not killed off}, and I watched Mr. Ben on the Bachelor!, we celebrated Chris's birthday, was also able to fit in some extra runs and zumba classes, I was able to see my dad and go out for lunch with him since he is spending the winter months in AZ, I had one day of sleeping in, and now it is back to work. Good thing it will only be two day work week!

When you get time for yourself how do you spend it?

We have been going on family walks a few nights a week to take in the beautiful lights of our neighborhood. I love seeing the light reflect off of the water.

Then last week we went to zoo lights. Here are two of my favorites.

Children's Santa Birthday Party

My sweet friend Marla from Keeping up with Stella and Ruby Lou recently held a joint birthday party for her daughters. Sweet Stella turned four and Miss Ruby turned the big one!

To tie in with the girls invites the theme of the party was styled with cupcakes and pom pom garland. Marla's sister in law made the girls their own cupcake cakes with each girl getting a cake with a 'S' and a 'R' with matching mini cupcakes for the guests.

Aren't these cupcakes the sweetest thing ever?!

What I love most about this party was Santa came to visit all the of guests. I remember when I was either four or five and on Christmas Eve Santa came to visit me. Still today, it is one of my favorite childhood memories. I am pretty sure Marla's girls (well, at least Stella) will always remember turning four!

Miss E's First Birthday: Pink, Ruffles, and Pearls

E is for Elle and her birthday party was decorated with all things pink, ruffles, bows, and pearls.

{Yes, Miss E is destined to be a girly girl one way or another! }

The day was celebrated with close friends and with my wonderful sister who flew in for the weekend. It was a really special weekend and I look forward to Thursday when we get to spend the day together as a family celebrating Elle's real birthday.

It is my pleasure to share with all of you some of my favorite photos that were captured.

The holiday season is in full swing.

We had our first Christmas party of the season this weekend followed by Miss E's Christmas music program yesterday. This week I will be working on last minute birthday party decorations, finalizing the menu {I have a feeling we should have had this little party catered in}, attending dinner with Santa on Thursday night, and what I'm really hoping for is to find time to enjoy the Christmas spirit by enjoy a cup of hot coca and watching my favorite Christmas movie the Holiday, this week!

Friday's Party: Children's Thanksgiving Fun

Thanksgiving weekend is my favorite weekend of the year and I can't wait to spend it with my little family of three.

I came across these adorable turkey cupcakes via the party dress and seeing this super cute, kid friendly table makes me want to relive sitting at the kid's table like I did growing up.

T is for Tutu and DIY Instructions

I think I have found a new calling.... making Tutu's. I can't even tell you how simple yet how fun it was to make Miss E a tutu for her birthday photo shoot next month.

I went to my local ribbon store where I purchased all the materials. It took me about an hour to make and now I simply can't wait to make more!

Tutu Instructions:

Supplies Needed:

3 bolts of tulle

{ I found the bolts of tulle to be much easier to work with as the width is already cut for you vs buying it off the shelf at Joanns.}

Elastic- Non Slip 3/4 " to 1"

Ribbon is optional

{I did not use ribbon on mine}

Instructions:

Measure child's waist and cut elastic 2-3"inches shorter than waist

Either sew the elastic together or hot glue

{ I hot glued my elastic and had no problem}

Cut the tulle into 27" pieces. You will do this for each bolt.

{Very Important to note.. your tutu's length will be end up being half of what you originally cut!

I made this mistake and had to go back and trim off tulle due to it being too long for my child.}

For Infant I suggest cutting your tulle into 12"-14" lengths.

Older girls I suggest cutting your tulle into 18-27" lengths.

{Your length will vary due to how tall the child is and if you prefer shorter or longer tutu's}

Tie each piece of tulle separately into a double knot around the elastic band.

{some might find it to be easier to tie the tulle by placing your band of elastic around a paper towel holder or a tall round canister}

Pull tightly and place pieces of tulle close to one another. Your tutu will fill in nicely and yes, you will use all three bolts.

If you are using ribbon cut your ribbon pieces to the same length of your tulle pieces. If you cut your tulle to be 14 inches then you cut your ribbon to be 14 inches.

Place ribbon around the elastic in between the tulle evenly.

You can make your tutus with a variety of colors mixed in, add embleshiments such as a bow or flowers, or simply wear plain.

Tutu's also look adorable with baby leg crawlers.

Oh man what a week... I ran my first half marathon and it was so much fun! I can't wait to run another half! Thank you again for those who left me encouraging words.

My baby girl is sick. Double ear infection. Not fun.

Garage door is broken. Ugh..

One more week of teaching parenting classes. Working till 7:30 pm is not ideal.

So glad I hardly ever have to work that late.

Looking forward to having a date night tomorrow night.

Running Tips

Today I bring you a special guest, my dear friend Lisa from Lisa's Yarns. Lisa and I have been friends for over 10 years as we were sorority sisters and since then have remained close to one another. Lisa has been running for several years where she has completed two marathons and several half marathons. She is someone who has inspired me to try running. This Sunday, I will be running my first half marathon. Lisa has been my distance coach during the past 13 weeks of training and I have asked her to share some running advice for any newbies out there that might be thinking of trying out a half marathon or any race for that matter.

In Lisa's Words:

It’s hard to believe it’s been over 5 years since I ran my first half marathon. I still vividly remember making the decision to sign up. The longest race I had done at that point of my life was a leisurely 5k run so the jump from 3.1 miles to 13.1 miles seemed awfully daunting. But I was ready for a new goal and a new challenge, so I forged ahead (and talked a co-worker into doing it with me).

I’ve learned a lot in the last five years and am a much smarter runner than I was back in 2006. That said, I miss the wonder and amazement I felt after completing that first half marathon. I miss the excitement I felt at the starting line of my first half, back in June of 2006. So in addition to the list of advice that will follow, my biggest tip is to enjoy the experience and to appreciate what your body is able to do on race day. Instead of focusing on your time, focus on how far you have come since the first day you started your half marathon training program! And enjoy the race and finish with a big smile on your face!

Here some other tips…

1. Resist the urge to start too fast. There is a lot of nervous energy at the beginning of a race and it is easy to get caught up in what others are doing. You know your body and what it is capable – force yourself to maintain a pace that is sustainable for the whole race. It’s better to have excess energy at the end so you can pick up the pace in those final miles!

2. Hydrate! In the days leading up to the race, drink lots and lots of water. Avoid carbonated beverages. Don’t consume alcohol. Avoid anything that could cause you to feel dehydrated on race day!

3. Find your inspiration. Put together a fun playlist for your iPod or think of a mantra to repeat when you are feeling the pain of those miles. When I ran my marathons, I wrote down a family member or friend’s name next to each mile on the pace bracelet – and I then dedicated each mile to that person.

4. Your goal is to finish. When you are racing at a new distance, your goal should be to finish. As tempting as it is, do no compare yourself to others! This is not easy to do. Regardless of what the clock says when you finish - be proud of the fact that you finished!

Weekend Recap:Niece visit and Taylor Swift Concert

I had a great time with my niece who flew in for the weekend. We spent the weekend shopping and the best part was going to the Taylor Swift concert on Saturday night! Taylor is beyond talented and she is even more beautiful in person if you can imagine that.

To end my week off of work last week aka "fall break" I took in the grand opening of LuLulemon. I found so many cute pieces I could have bought the entire store.

We really enjoyed ourselves on our long weekend getaway to New York/ New Jersey. It was great to spend time with my good friend, Sara who lives about 20 minutes from New York City. It was so much fun seeing her little girl Miss L and Miss E play together. They had so much fun as they spent time together at the park, beach, and even taking baths together every night. They also happen to be pen pals with one another.

Our first day in the city was spent going to Laduree. It was just as great as I remember it being when I was in Paris two years ago.

We then we strolled over to Central Park where we had a picnic lunch. I definitely left a piece of my heart in Central Park. It is truly one of the most romantic sites I have seen. Next time I am there I want to go on a row boat.

Then we made our way over to FAO Schwarz toy store. Elle picked out a soft pink bunny that her daddy bought for her.

She was pretty excited about her new toy and then we went upstairs where Elle played on the big piano.

The next day we went to Point Pleasant in New Jersey. We spent sometime on the beach and strolling the board walk. This was miss E's first time actually being at a beach and she loved it.

On Sunday we went back into the city and strolled around the West Village/ Soho neighborhood. Our first stop of the day was Magnolia bakery where we enjoyed cupcakes and banana pudding for breakfast. Then it was off to exploring the streets and doing a little bit of shopping.

It was a quick weekend as I wasn't able to see everything I would have liked but I guess that just gives me another reason to come back!

We leave today for NYC!

I am so excited as I have always wanted to visit NYC, I get to experience fall, visit some amazing cupcake bakeries, have a picnic in Central Park, and I get to spend quality time with my an amazing friend and her family.

Now fingers are crossed Miss E does well on the airplane and traveling around on the subways won't be too difficult!

I will be back early next week to share my adventure.

Now that our temps are finally below 100 it's time to start enjoying soup again. Granted, I could eat soup year round as to me its one of those foods that never let you down, sort of like a pan of brownies!

Here are some two soup recipes I am hoping to try out in the following weeks.

My favorite soup is my dad's homemade chicken noodle soup. We still to this day don't exactly know how he makes...it's one of those recipes where he puts a "dash of this" and a "dash of that" into it as its simmers and cooks all day. Lucky for me, this winter my dad is coming to Arizona for several months as he escapes winter back home so I already know what I will be requesting for dinner when he visits!

I debated back and forth between some Halloween ideas and I decided Miss E is going to be a ghost for Halloween. Miss E will be participating in a Trick or Trunk at her daycare, will attend the Halloween parade at Mommy's school, and of course will be all dressed up to help pass out candy at home so I think she will be getting plenty of wear out of this costume.

Along with some black and white striped leggings from baby gap, here is what I'm loving/ envisioning to complete her costume.

I heart this ghost tee from Musical Mandie which can also be made in a variety of colors or on an onesie. I plan on ordering in white.

J.Crew Factory Finds

Last weekend I stopped in at our J.Crew Factory store and grabbed these finds

If you remember I showcased this cardigan a few weeks ago in my weekly What am I loving post

Good news. I scored this cardigan for $15! Umm, this was originally $70! Steal!

Simple navy and white tissue striped tee.

This will be perfect to wear for multiple seasons and will be fun to accessorize with a scarf or with gold jewelry.

I also bought a navy eyelet skirt (which can be paired with a variety of tops) and a

boatneck cotton tee.

The best part.... I scored all these pieces for under $100.00!

Paris treats in NYC!!

Weekend Getaway: Grand Canyon

We spent the weekend up in Sedona, Arizona and then made our way to the Grand Canyon on Saturday morning. After living in Arizona for over 7 years, I can finally can say I have seen the Grand Canyon.

It was beyond amazing.

Honestly, the pictures my husband took do not do it justice.
