Mouth of Babes

{photo via here}

Nothing like talking about marriage with a group of first grade boys. Yesterday, during one of my groups we were having a party and enjoying ice cream sundaes with all the fixings when this conversation came to life...

One of the little boys says to me "Ms. Heidi, this sundae is so good I could marry it and also marry a blonde girl."
Another boy in the groups joins in and says "I want to marry a girl."
Me: "That's good, a girl like your mom maybe?"
Boy: "No, She is about to die"
Me: "Oh really"
Boy: "Yah, she is really old. My mom is almost 100 years old!"
Me: " How old is she really?"
Boy: "She's 27"
Me: "Oh your mom is young you have nothing to worry about. In fact, your mom is younger than me."
The group then goes on to ask my age. I tell them that I am 30 years old they say "Oh my goodness!" { I know so old right?!}
The third group member joins in and says: "I am never going to get married because I am going to be an Astronaut and I don't have time for a wife in space!"

  1. That's the best story!!! When I was a camp counselor, I once had to explain to the parents of the 15 four year old boys that their sons may come home talking about what a honeymoon was. One of my campers had just come back from his family vacay in Orlando and told all of the campers that a honeymoon is "when you go to Disneyworld and lock your door and you yell at each other." Sweet thing. I guess his family's room was next to a pair of newlyweds.
